TSA releases its secrets

Just when you thought it was safe to be patted down in peace at the airport, the Transportation Security Administration releases a “redacted” version of its s00per s33kr1t operations manual, downloadable here. Basically this means that now we know what TSA officials do when they find hazardous material, how they properly pat down a diplomat and the fact that passengers may transport one self-defense spray in checked baggage as long as it does not contain tear gas.

The scary part of this news as Boing Boing noted, is that this redacted version simply covered the secret parts with black blocks…which can be taken off with the highly secretive ctrl-a/ctrl-c/ctrl-v technique. Now it seems anyone can learn what the TSA to protect the friendly skies…and in turn could easily evade these techniques.

There is always a risk when traveling and unfortunately this time it seems authorities have increased that risk. It’s up to fellow travelers to keep our eyes open and take care of one another as we travel this holiday season…and every holiday season.

Safe journeys.
